Vesuvius Volcano
The Vesuvius Volcano app provides near-real-time information about earthquakes detected by the local network of the Vesuvius Observatory of Italy’s National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV)*.
It graphically shows where earthquake hypocentres are located (map and depth) and how the seismic unrest is changing over time. It also provides descriptions of the major historical eruptions of Vesuvius over the last 2000 years.
While Vesuvius is currently dormant the app provides residents and visitors with insight into the long-term unrest patterns of Vesuvius and its central place in the development of modern volcanology science.
